In the broad sense, joinery stands for any type of woodworking. In the narrower sense of however, it is binding different pieces of wood for creating a particular wooden product. The product can be anything; furniture, wooden roof or a toy made out of wood. Usually, when a woodwork is about to end, it requires finishing work and joining work ensures that finishing touch.
There are different types of joints in woodwork like butt joint, rabbet joints etc. The most basic wood joint is butt joint. It’s quite simple but the amount of accuracy involved in it, is important. If the accuracy isn’t restored, then the joining work won’t be flawless. But even then, butt joint doesn’t involve any type of intricacy. It’s just joining two pieces of woods by a blow of hammer. There is a difference between basic butt joint and mitered butt joint. In case of basic butt joint, the two pieces of wood meet each other at a square formation whereas in mitered joint, they meet at an angular formation. Mitered joint looks more appealing than butt joints, because the meeting point of two woods appears smooth.

Rabbet joint is a kind of joinery work that looks systematic in shape as when two wood pieces are joined, both are tailor cut in such a way that that the one piece looks more like a blank area having a specific geometrical shape and the other piece to fill that up will look like its complementary part. The best example to delineate a rabbet joint is referring to the structure of a staircase. If the gaps are all filled by another upside down staircase structure, then the total configuration will be a rabbet joint.
Other types of joints like lap joints, housing joint etc are used in housing, furniture making and other types of woodworks. Usually, home or furniture owners look for woodworking and professional services to offer joinery works can either carry out the entire work from scratch to end or start working on the designs that are sent to them by clients. It depends upon the clients to decide what services they are expecting from the joiner. If the client is a professional designer, then the house or furniture maker’s job is only to execute the drawing into woodwork. If the client wants complete cabinet making to be done, then the joinery service provider must present a set of technical drawings along with tips and advices to the client.

Also, it depends upon the discernment of the client to select a woodworking and joining service provider. A company to provide clients with the best carpentry and joinery work needs to maintain the quality of the doors, windows, fitted furniture and wooden roofs. If the company can carry these works out by using modern technology, while assuring that the cabinet, roof or the wooden floor is made out of sustainable wood and the wood is thermal efficient. Health, safety and customer satisfaction are all relevant factors, which a professional joinery service should keep in mind.
